          Welcome to the Gold Coast
          Amateur Radio Association

The GCARA is one of the oldest ham radio
clubs in South Florida with a growing membership of about 251 licensed operators. The club was founded in 1969 by its first trustee, Charles D. Ritchie, (Chuck) (W4BUG) SK, back when amateur radio, VHF, UHF, and HF repeaters were a technical challenge.
Keep in mind that the amateur radio operator is often the unseen hero during emergencies when other means fail to operate. In this high technology information age, there is still a need for the dedicated amateur, and our club stands ready to provide any public service communications should it be called upon to do so.

                          Dues

We have been fortunate to receive a few donations but, they will not last forever. If you are in arrears, please pay your dues and remain in good standing with the club.

            FROM THE PREZ........

We are getting ready for our biggest foray into ham radio, Field Day. On Saturday, June 24 and Sunday, June 25, Gold Coast Amateur Radio Association in conjunction with Ares-Races will be practicing emergency communication at the Bald Eagle Pavillion in Quiet Waters Park. We are looking forward to honing our skills and seeing old friends. We are especially looking forward to our “Fox Hunt” at 4 pm on Saturday. Like radio detectives we will find a hidden radio signal in the park. It should provide fun for all. We plan to have an antenna prize but this is subject to change.

As always, there will be food and drink and some prizes for attending. First prize will be an AllTone Radio. Second prize will be a Voltmeter and third prize will be a Big Larry flashlight. Tickets will be five dollars each and you do not need to be present to win. The winning tickets will be pulled at our next general meeting on the 27th of June at Imperial Point Hospital.

I hope to see you all there to help support the hobby of Amateur Radio and to get into the swing of things in time for the upcoming Hurricane season, where it is very possible that you may need emergency communication skills.

73 to all,

Melanie Fernandez
